As shown in the book, Patroclos is indeed a noble comrade and warrior. He is Achilles’ beloved friend, companion, and advisor, Patroclos grew up alongside the great warrior in Phthia, under the guardianship of Peleus. In book sixteen, Patroclos went to Achilles’ tent to convince Achilles to go back and rejoin his comrades in war ,and to be allowed to wear Achilles’ armor if he still refuses to join the war. Achilles refuses to rejoin the battle, but he agreed to lend Patroclos his armor This part showed that Patroclos was devoted to both Achilles and the Achaean cause, Patroclus stands by the enraged Achilles but also dons Achilles’ terrifying armor in an attempt to hold the Trojans back.

As Patroclos arms himself, the first ship goes up in flames, and Achilles sends his Myrmidon soldiers, who have not fought since Achilles left the battle, to accompany Patroclos. The battle quickly turned in the favor of the Achaean because of the appearance of Patroclos in Achilles’ armor. This happened because the Achaeans thought it was Achilles, and this boosted their morale to fight harder. The Trojans retreated and Patroclos slaughtered every Trojan he encountered. He soon spears Sarpedon, the offspring of Zeus. Hector returns briefly to the front in an attempt to retrieve Sarpedon’s armor. Zeus decides to kill Patroclos for slaying Sarpedon, but first he lets him fall into a trap. Zeus imbued Hector with a temporary cowardice, and then Hector led a retreat. When the Trojans retreated, Patroclos pursued them all the way to the Trojan gates. Apollo persuaded Hector to charge Patroclos. Hector charged Patroclos, but Patroclos killed Cebriones, Hector’s driver. While a lot of thing was happening, Apollo sneaked up on Patroclos and wounded him, and Hector finishes him off. Hector then taunted the dying man, but he foretold of Hector’s own death. That was the end of Patroclos’ role in the story.

In book sixteen, it truly showed that Patroclos was a noble comrade and warrior. He wore the armor of Achilles to boost the morale of the Achaeans and help thaem in battle. He knew that wearing Achilles’ armor would catch the attention of a lot of people including the Trojans, but he took the risk just to help out his comrades. He caught the attention of the Achaeans, and he was mistaken to be Achilles. He was slain by Hector in a cowardly way. He died because he just wanted to help out the Achaeans. All of these showed how dedicated he was to the Achaean cause. In conclusion, Patroclos is undoubtedly a noble comrade and warrior.
